A special message in response to a challenging time.
In challenging times like this, what makes Miami Country Day School special is even more evident. Community. Country Day is a special community that carries on, albeit in different ways, in the face of unprecedented times. The school emphasizes that valuing every member of our community and treating them with care and respect is of principal importance, especially during trying times like these. We maintain our commitment to treating every member of our community with honor, respect, wisdom, and compassion.
The health and well-being of our Miami Country Day Community is the school’s main priority. From the beginning of the Coronavirus threat, Mariandl Hufford, President and Head of School, met regularly with the school’s Incident Command Team. The community of parents, students and teachers received their first weekly update February 11 and those communications continue.
Proactive precautions were taken. In preparation of a school closing, a review of the school’s Academic Continuity Plan was performed and, as a result, we confirmed that Zoom, an online platform for grades PK3 – 12, is the best method to maintain an engaged learning community. Increase in cleaning staff and procedures were implemented to ensure a clean and healthy campus, using CDC and EPA guidelines. School-sponsored travel programs were stopped. School counselors were available and prepared to support children and adults through this challenging time. Resources are on the parent portal of the school’s website, MyCountryDay, to assist parents in talking with their children.
Teaching online is something that has been a part of our academic program and our students are prepared to learn in their new virtual class. As we now live in a “new normal” that changes on the hour, our commitment to living the school’s Mission is as strong as ever. Our teachers are working tirelessly to maintain our learning community and support every student, every day.
We are grateful for our community and for your support in all its forms.
Take care,
