Middle School
"Learn by doing!" These high energy drama classes meet four times a week. The course is designed to stimulate spontaneity and creativity through improvisation exercises, theatre games, scene work, and monologue study. The course is structured to cultivate the young actor's innate skills. Students will learn to use their body and voices effectively on stage and to interact naturally without self–consciousness. They will also learn the necessary techniques that place them on the path toward dynamic, creative and believable acting.
Upper School
The Upper School Drama program provides a student-focused opportunity to explore and create a wide variety of theatrical events, developing a deeper appreciation for the arts and teaching close collaboration among students and faculty. Students can participate as actors, directors, playwrights, stage managers, make-up artists, and much more. Through project-based learning, the Introduction to Drama class offers an introduction to theater history, acting, and directing that is perfect for anyone, whether they wish to participate in theater as an actor or as an audience member. Our Thespian Troupe 4043 puts on two “main stage” productions a year: a comedy showcase written collaboratively by students and faculty and a major musical production. We also compete successfully in varied and performance and technical events at the district and state levels. Students who are involved in theater on an extra-curricular level at Miami Country Day have the opportunity to learn the technical aspects of theater, such as lighting design and stage management from talented professionals in the field.
