Earning Credit with GATEway
GATEmates will choose one of the following courses to study:
A Journey into the Art and Architecture of DUB/LON
Instructors: Mr. Lovett & Ms. Schreffler
Course credit: 0.5 credit Humanistic Studies
Immerse yourself in the world of Dublin’s hip galleries and London’s world-renowned museums. Through on-site visits and in-depth studies, GATEmates will not only discover the works of great masters up close and personal, but also study the architectural wonders that have made these two capital cities what they are today. The study of art and architecture will complement one another, as students delve into the essential elements of the Baroque, Gothic, Victorian, and Contemporary periods. If you were an art collector, what kind of art would you buy? How can you relate the art of a time period with the architectural style of its cities? Get ready for walking tours, gallery crawls, and artistic scavenger hunts! A true experiential educational experience!
Folklore: Tales Through DUB/LON!
Instructors: Ms. Scharite & Mr. Rosas
Course credit. 0.5 credit Communication Arts
Every country has its legends and folklore, and Ireland and the UK are no exceptions. In Ireland, GATEmates will go behind the scenes of the myths and legends of leprechauns, fairies, banshees, and Dullahan. In England, tales such as the English Witch Trials, Robin Hood, King Arthur, Tom Thumb, Jack the Ripper, and the Tower of London will provide our GATEmates great material about which to reflect and write. Through podcasts, photography, and on-site visits, our GATEmates will gain an appreciation for national folklore - all of which will serve as the basis for a unique literary magazine to be created this summer. Picture Harry Potter, witches, wizards, dragons, boggarts every day!
