The mission of the College Counseling Office is to facilitate the college admission process so that students are able to matriculate to a college that matches their interests and skillsets. With the onset of a population increase among college students, the college application process has become more complex as many colleges become more selective in their admission practices. Consequently, the College Counseling Office is guided by a hands-on, student/family-oriented philosophy to maximize our students’ opportunities for admission. Individualized and personalized guidance is the hallmark of our college counseling office.

Toward that end, our office and our families utilize a web-based software program, Naviance, at http://connection.naviance.com/miamicds. Each student and his/her parents are given access to this program, which facilitates the college admission process for our families by providing a variety of services, including researching colleges and providing communication with the College Counseling Office. In addition, students are provided with a test prep program, a career exploration component, and a personality self-inventory.

Program Overview

Individualized and personalized guidance is the hallmark
of our college counseling program.

College Counselors for 9th grade students and 10th grade students are assigned alphabetically. The assigned counselor will serve as a resource for the student and his/her parents for both years. In 11th grade, all students will be assigned a counselor at the beginning of the semester who will work with them during the college admission process.
