Early Childhood

Philosophy

The Early Childhood Program at Miami Country Day School focuses on the whole child and fosters growth in all areas through a developmentally appropriate and integrated curriculum. Critical and creative thinking promotes process vs. product orientation. Through play, experiences are designed to provide an academic foundation of readiness for future learning in a curriculum that intentionally spirals. Through hands-on learning with multi-sensory integration, students develop independence as well as skills to work cooperatively to reach a common goal. The program is designed to meet the needs of each student through differentiated learning with the primary focus being the social and emotional development of each child.

Students will be able to independently use their learning to:
  • Develop skills to communicate effectively
  • Develop skills to work cooperatively and independently
  • Use knowledge and conflict resolution skills to problem solve
  • Demonstrate self-regulation in a variety of situations
  • Understand and respect cultural diversity
The Country Day Early Childhood Essentials:
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) classroom environment
  • Small group and individual instruction
  • Flexible morning arrival time
  • Four playgrounds including an outdoor classroom space
  • Semi-private and private swim lessons
  • Family-style lunch in the classroom that encourages community building. Nutritious meals prepared in our kitchen using the best locally sourced ingredients.  
Weekly Enrichment
  • Abess Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) with animals and hands on experiences in conservation and natural sciences
  • Visual arts and music instruction
  • Physical Education and Yoga
  • Access to the Garner Innovation Center: Integrated technology program to supplement language arts and math curriculum including coding
  • Life Skills: develop a language of inclusion, understanding and caring
  • Mindfulness, social and emotional wellness

Program Hours: M-F 8:00am to 2:45pm/ 3:00pm. On Wednesdays 9am to 2:45pm/ 3:00pm

Extended Care: Available daily starting at 7:30am and following extended day offerings until 6:00pm.

After School Clubs

Clubs take place Monday through Friday from 3:15PM to 4:15PM.

Specifically, designed programs for students in PK3, JK4 and SK5. Choose from a wide variety of activities including Tennis, T-ball, Soccer, Golf, Ballet, Photography, Robotics, Cooking, Acting and more!
